SPEC in a New Era

We are entering a new era, where high-performance, low-power consumption systems will be available, that can run a multitude of OS. SPEC develops and supports tools to assist industry in assessing the systems suitable for this new era. A multitude of benchmark suites is available in addition to the well-known SPEC CPU, including HPC specific suites such as SPEC OMP and MPI, and virtualization and power-performance suites. They are used for an objective comparison of systems, and for assisting engineers with product development. We highlight the benchmark suites most relevant for HPC, and describe the industry's first standard power-performance suite.
